This is a first time ever Jazz Event
The First Annual Jazz Be Bop Festival – Eugene/Springfield OR – at the Wildish Theatre, 630 Main St, Springfield, OR 97477 –
As jazz musicians, and jazz historians, we have noticed there has never been a First Annual Jazz Be Bop Festival; EVER! Amazing, but true…
This festival will be music performed by genuine be bop players, who are well steeped in this genre. Be Bop is related to an American Cultural Revolution, its’s history, and a truly American Art Form! The music depicts the struggle, daily challenges, and successes, of the jazz culture in cities like New York, Chicago, and New Orleans, to begin with. this history is based in the music of Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, and Max Roach. From there the list goes on. We are speaking about the years from approximately 1942 to currently. The music reflects, directly, to the life of the musicians in American jazz society. We have relations with two major international headliners for this event::
- Mimi Fox, voted top jazz guitarist 5 years running in down Beat Magazine, and her master teacher Joe Pass, insists Mimi can “…play anything she wants to.”!
- Nancy King – who heir apparent to jazz master vocalist Ella Fitzgerald! Nancy is a master of Scat Singing, which is basically using your voice as a musical instrument. … and opening bands for three nights featuring Eugene/Springfield’s leading Be Bop Performers: David O’Toole, Barbara Dzuro, Bruce Cole, Eric Richardson, Kenny Reed; and the list goes on. these musicians are deeply steeped in early be bop, to its present evolved state; modern innovative music!
- As a SPECIALTY, we will present a Tribute to pianist Dave Brubeck, a jazz genius from the 1950’s- 70’s. We noticed that that here too, this has never, ever been done. We will present a Dave Brubeck Tribute Band on the same evening as Mimi Fox’ performance. This preview band has already performed at the Eugene Jazz Station on June 13, 2014 (www.thejazzstation.org – go to Calendar.) Each tune had a standing ovation from a thoroughbred jazz audience that night! One member, Saxophonist Dana McWayne is only fifteen years of age. He totally grasps the whole idea of jazz expertise. amazing! The band is a mixture of older and young jazz musicians. The venue has sufficient parking right next door to W!ildish Theatre! Intemission will be catered with gourmet snacks and beverages!. This is a work in Progress, so stay tuned to this most important American Music Event! there will be much more information forthcoming!
- Be Bop Film Festival! Our Associates have rights to Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon, Dave Brubeck Movies. these movies will be interspersed throughout the Festival.
