The Happy Drummer –
A senior drummer living in Eugene Or USA!
My love for Jazz, specifically Be Bop began at age 12 in my hometown of Albany, NY. When I first heard a recorded radio broadcast of Jazz At Massey Hall in Canada, featuring the fathers of Be Bop: Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Bud Powell, Charles Mingus, and Max Roach; it changed my life forever. There was so much happening in the sound, and it swung with so much strength.
So, simply put, I spent the rest of my life playing, and studying the art of jazz drumming, or forming bands in this Genre.
I now am a member of a successful volunteer jazz club in Eugene OR: thejazzstation.org, and recently produced a band named The Dave Brubeck Tribute Band, and performed there on June 13, 2014, to standing ovations, as our inspiration certainly did shine!
I am Co-Producing, along w/Stephen Ambrose, The First Annual Eugene/Springfield Jazz Be Bop Festival, which will also include: One of Jazz’ leading guitarists, Mimi Fox; Scat Singer Nancy King And The Brubeck Tribute Band, along with some of the areas foremost Be Bop Players. This event will remain true to the Be Bop Genre, in the purest sense!
